Movie: This is the End

Filled with the most insulting, stupid, dirty, offensive jokes, “This is the End” is not for you even if you’re the mildly-sensitive type. However, if you are a fan of raucous films like “Superbad” or “Pineapple Express”, you will be laughing out loud all throughout its running time.
Some films are purely made for the purpose of entertainment. “This is the End” is one such film that despite being stupid for most part, successfully accomplishes its mission of delivering a good number of laughs with the help of its all-star cast. While I agree most of the humor is cheap and obnoxious, but with Seth Rogen at the helm of the affairs and James Franco and Jonah Hill in his company, you can’t expect anything better.
When a wild all-star party in Los Angeles going on at James Franco’s house in the presence of actors such as Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson among many more goes topsy-turvy due to what is supposedly the end of the world, all hell breaks loose.
With everything around them burnt to ash and crushed to pieces, Franco and his friends embark on a journey of survival with very little hope. This journey is not an emotional one, but one filled with bromance, comedy, stupidity and lot of banter. It spoofs on several genres as it constantly shifts from being a disaster film to horror and even sci-fi at regular intervals.
“This is the End” is a self-parody born out of an exercise while everyone was stoned and giggly. I’m guessing it must have born out of a conversation Seth must have had with the key cast of the film rolling a joint on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I’m sure the idea was to make a film that’s crudely stupid yet funny, and that’s precisely how the film turns out to be.
There’s so much fun that you forget after a point it’s actually a film. Comedy, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. It’s Hollywood style fun that strictly caters to the fans of the stars in the film. The film’s intention was crystal clear. To make an outrageously funny film without giving a shit about what the critics had to say. It’s the kind of a film every Michael Cera or Seth Rogen within us would like to watch and roll on the floor and laugh.
You will either love or hate “This is the End”, but here’s a newsflash, the film doesn’t give a rat’s ass if you didn’t like it
