The Weekly Wrap Up

By Sara Zwicker @SaraZwicker

Hi all!  Happy Monday!  Has everyone recovered from watching the Super Bowl last night?  Whatever team you were cheering for, it was a sit on the edge of your seat kind of game right until the very end. My heart was in my throat for the last 10 minutes, I literally felt shaky, it was nuts!  Today, I am writing this from my office at home, as we are getting hit with another crazy snowstorm, so I am working from home while Robyn and Ashton are out in the living room singing “Let it Go” from the Frozen sound track.  It’s going to be interesting how this plays out when I have to jump on a conference call with my agency soon! :)  While I have a few minutes, let’s take a look at what the week looked like with the Weekly Wrap Up!

Week: 1/26-2/1

Monday:  I knew that today would be my last day in the office for a few days since we were going to be hit with a huge snowstorm, so I lifted heavy legs and followed it with a 20 min HIIT run on the treadmill.  I alternated 1 min at 6.6 and 1 min at 8.5 for 2.55 miles in 20 mins.  It was hard but not impossible and the recovery min always seemed to go by in an instant. I actually really love these kinds of runs because they go by so fast–especially when I’m listening and singing to T Swift!

:)

Tuesday: Well, like we anticipated, we got dumped on by Juno.  My work actually closed–this is very uncommon and what is more uncommon is RObyn’s work closed too.  I think in 9 years his work has only closed 2 times, mine maybe 4. I measured our deck in the morning and we already had 34″, I have no idea what the final number way but needless to say, we didn’t leave the house.  There was also a driving ban across MA so you know it was bad.  This was our deck around 8 a.m. CRAZY!

Since we were all cooped up in the house, it was clear I was going to have to do a video for my workout so during Ashton’s nap, I popped in T25 Beta Dynamic core and did that. I was happy to see that it wasn’t too difficult for me anymore.  I’d say it was a 6 out of 10 when it used to be a 9 out of 10 for me, showing I am getting stronger!!

Wednesday: My office was open but I worked from home, as did my whole team since most of us were still snowed in.  School was still cancelled where I live and while Robyn had to go into work at 11 a.m. and he could have brought Ashton to daycare then, I really don’t like Robyn being on the roads when it’s bad, never mind adding Ashton into that equation so Ashton stayed at home with me while I worked.  It wasn’t ideal but we made it work.  When Ashton went down for his nap, I took a lunch break, which never happens when I am actually in the office and I got my workout in.  I decided to try one of my new Insanity Max 30 videos.  I did the Cardio Challenge video and let me tell you, it was awesome!  I’ve said it many times before, but I love workouts that push you to the max and then you are done.  I would much rather that than a steady state workout.  You work in 5 minute increments and the goal is to push yourself to the max and then a 30 second recovery.  If you “max out” you write down the time when you have to stop and then get back to it.   I am happy to say I didn’t “max out” during this video but I was suffering around the 20 minute mark but I pushed through.  Again, I credit this to the Asylum program–my endurance for cardio has really increased!

Thursday: As much as I love being home, I was happy to get back to work and back to the gym for my regular weekday workouts. I kicked off my workout with lifting chest and tris, did some crazy ab work on some machines they had at the gym that I have never used before and then finished with a 2.55 mile HIIT on the treadmill in 20 mins.

Friday: I only had a short time to get in a workout because I had an early morning meeting so I lifted back and biceps and had to call it a day. I really enjoy the change in my routine and the focus on more strength training. My overall goal is to get a bit more defined in my arms and back.  I think I am staring to see more definition in just a few short weeks of lifting.

Saturday: We had a really busy day with swim in the morning and then a birthday party for one of Ashton’s friends in the late afternoon.  My right calf was really sore so I took it as a rest day.

Sunday: My calf wasn’t 100% again so I decided to take it easier and I did PiYo strength intervals.  It was a good workout and I like having the PiYo program as a way to keep moving but not completely tax my body like running or lifting does.

So that is the Weekly Wrap Up!  Given the weird week with the snow storm, I am happy with my workouts.  I need to do a bit more focused trigger point on my calves since the HIIT running is aggravating it a bit.  I am happy to say that I am still exceeding my water intake goal, which has left me feeling really good!

So, with that, I am signing off so I can jump on a conference call.  Have a great Monday and if you are stuck at home today with this snow storm, stay warm and safe!
