Imagine a place, you are holding whisky sour(made from single malt ) looking at the national flag at the central park, sitting on the al-fresco side of a newly opened café which is colonial inspired royal café – This feels wonderful! You are right I am talking about Vault Café, which opened last month in CP.
I have always been great admirer of CP and I am really glad that after all the roads blocks, renovation – CP has finally gained popularity, once again! It always had great potential of attracting people and now by opening of new cafés’, glorious days of CP is back again. I got invite from Vault Café for review and reached there on a Wednesday night to understand, what the buzz was all about. I was greeted by their manager, who not only showed me the entire café but also helped me to choose the dishes.
I really loved the way it is designed. Umang Tiwari who owns this place along with couple of known and successfully running places like Skooter, Café OTB HKV and so on.Vault café is a vintage industrial ambiance visualized as a storehouse of British East India Company. The transformative café par lounge bar has been visualized with rustic interiors architecture with colonial influences to bring in the theme of the Colonial era. Vault is hyper thematic with expressive décor, state of art sound and light and a mouth watering F&B overlay to complement that.(as per their press release)Their menu is really vast and I mean it - More than 25 pages in their menu where you can get food from around the world. In nutshell you can find here everything which you can think of - from Italian to Indian to continental to Spanish to Mediterranean and worth mentioning is their Indian street food section, along with range of parathas.I personally don’t prefer huge menu as it confuses me. And also it wasn’t easy for me to try everything and hence following chef’s recommendation was the best option. We ordered BBQ Chicken, smoked cheese Balls, fish fingers and chicken satay. While we liked the cheese Balls and fish fingers, BBQ Chicken was average, infact it was little chewy and felt that usage of sauce could have been reduced. Next we tried their pizza, both veg and non-veg. They have wood oven grill and toppings were good, however I didn't like the base that was soggy and under cooked.
Their food had some hits and few miss, however I loved the spirits that they serve. They had some great cocktails and it surely is amazing stuff! Whisky sour and vault 1857 topped my favorite list and I equally loved - Raspberry Swizzle( vodka with raspberry puree, lime juice, sugar syrup, ginger and ginger foam) and Watermelon and clove Margarita. I also loved Nalli Nehari which was served with plain rice (though it wasn’t like nehari but nevertheless it was delicious and well cooked)
I believe that they need to work on their starters and I am sure they will pick it up as the café is just a month old! They definitely have great range of cocktails and sure to give some tough competition as well!
