The Turquoise Appeal of Kuang Si Falls

By Travelmakesmetick

Kuang Si Falls are the biggest waterfall around Luang Prabang. Located around 30 km away from the town, the falls are one of the main attractions in the area due to their undeniable beauty as well as the fact that most pools are open to swimming.

You can get there on your own or with a tourist agency. A nominal fee is charged at the entrance. Expect the usual tourist amenities: restaurants, souvenir shops, and even changing rooms.

At the beginning of the trail leading to the falls there is a bear rescue center, where you can catch a glimpse of the bears, freed from illegal trades, playing in the swings and little pools built for them at the center.

Further up you’ll find multi-tier (mostly shallow) pools

but my favorite moment was when a group of monks in their saffron robes appeared in front of the main cascade. I wish I had a zoom lense to take some more close-up shots, but this is the best I could do with my fixed-lense camera.
