This whole idea that Turkey is ready for the EU insane. There’s Europe, and then there’s Turkey. Turkey is a part of Europe geographically (sort of – more precisely part of Eurasia – where Europe and Asia meet), but it’s been the Sick Man of the continent so long it’s on its deathbed, soon to be flatlining. Absent an entire Cultural Revolution, Turkey will never be ready for the EU, and even if that unlikely event takes place, there’s those tens of thousands of Muslims who are now citizens of the EU. Just what Europe needs – more Muslims.
