My list of seeds for Spring and Summer planting continues...with notes and reasons for choice on some. :)
I'll split them up into suppliers lists:
Diggers Club
I choose not to become a member of this club but I do buy for full retail price occasionally.
Bean - Haricot Phaseolus vulgaris
Plump, creamy white beans
Young beans can be eaten fresh and green, later for and drying.
Soak dry beans for 6-8 hours before cooking.
Optimal Soil temp 25C
Chosen for color of seed and their ability to be used dried (as a climbing variety).
Beetroot - Cylindra Beta vulgaris
Elongated beet that is ideal for closer spacing as the roots grow down instead of swelling out.
Optimal Soil temp 25C
Chosen for shape (ease of slicing)
Brussels Sprouts - Ruby Brasica oleracea
Burgundy-red, nutty sprouts
Sprouts turn caviar black when cooked
Optimal Soil temp 18C
These are for Dec planting for next autumn chosen for color.
Celery - Dorata D' Asti Apium graveolens var. dulce
Remaining crisp and juicy without the need for blanching.
Optimal Soil temp 20C
Chosen because the leaves don't need blanching
Pea - Golden Podded Pisum sativum
Golden yellow pods are best picked when young, and eaten pod and all.
Optimal Soil temp 23C
Chosen for color and because they are unusual
