The Gestational period is considered to be a delicate phase in the life of a woman. It transforms the life of the mother as well as the baby drastically. It becomes essential for the pregnant woman as well as for the other members of the family to take utmost care with respect to her health and diet. A woman goes through a lot of hormonal as well as health related changes. It is essential to undergo regular health check up to ensure safety of woman as well as the baby. During pregnancy, there are higher chances of getting affected with gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, etc… These problems can be temporary or lifelong.

What is Gestational Diabetes?

Gestational Diabetes is a disease which happens when the level of sugar or glucose increases drastically in the blood during the time of pregnancy. There is a rise in the sugar level due to the lack of the production of insulin in the body. Insulin is an essential hormone which facilitates the tissues and muscles to consume sugar or glucose for boosting the energy in body. Doctors regularly prescribe the expectant to undergo regular body checkups for ensuring safety from gestational diabetes.

The following are the reasons of the growth in diabetes:

  • As the phases of pregnancy increases, it becomes essential for the pregnant woman to produce more and more insulin. In case the body is reluctant in producing extra insulin, there are more chances of getting affected with gestational diabetes.
  • The woman undergoes drastic hormonal changes within the body. In such a situation it is important to produce as much insulin as possible. But rise in sugar levels in blood makes the hormones weaker and weaker. This results in the growth of gestational diabetes in the body.

The case of gestational diabetes is one out of six expectant mothers. It is quite a common problem which is highly found amongst the expecting ones. The best part about gestational diabetes is that it gets rid away from the body post delivery. However, it is essential to take a note of the effects of gestational diabetes amongst pregnant woman.

  • Some of the common effects of gestational diabetes are fatigue, tiredness, blurry vision, craving for water, infections, etc…
  •  Although gestational diabetes disappears post delivery, yet it is essential to keep it under control once it is detected. If the level of sugar increases in the blood, then there are high chances of getting it crossed to the baby via placenta. This will affect the baby adversely. This will effect the growth of the baby. The baby will develop very largely than the normal babies.
  •  Big sized babies create a lot of problem during labor and delivery. This can risk the birth of the baby. Unfortunately, if the delivery becomes complicated, there are more chances of finding the baby to be still born post delivery.
  • In case of uncontrolled gestational diabetes, water and amniotic fluid will start developing around the baby. This can become a threat for the baby during delivery.
