The “Presenting Face of Intelligence”

Posted on the 16 December 2018 by Calvinthedog

When people comment on here, mostly what we see is verbal IQ. Verbal IQ is the “presenting face” of intelligence in this comments section so to speak. We can’t really see math and spatial in these comments, so there’s no way to evaluate someone on that level.

However, when I have met people who were high in spatial and math IQ (by observation), generally I didn’t think that they came across as stupid. They didn’t necessarily come across as intellectuals either, but some were extroverts who don’t come across like that anyway. A lot of even highly intelligent extroverts don’t come across as intellectuals because they prefer people and parties and whatnot to sticking their nose in a book, which they regard as the height of antisocial boredom.

Which it is, I suppose. I mean sure, except it’s not boring to me at all. It’s antisocial I guess but so what? We introverts tire of people and their BS. My books don’t ghost me, refuse to call me back, or stop speaking to me for no comprehensible reason.

Women are as hard to figure out as Deleuze, make about as much sense (little, none, or at least opaque), and are about as much of a pain to puzzle through. Actually, women are probably worse than Deleuze. There are humans who claim to understand Deleuze. They’re probably lying, but let’s give them credit for now. There are no humans who understand women. My female friends can’t understand them either. Even Freud threw up his hands.

My Mom used to drop me off at the USC library sometimes and go run around LA. She would come back in 8-12 hours to pick me up. I was happy as a clam, having devoured a small pile of books about this or that. It was more like 10 minutes went by than 10 hours. I would say, “You here already?” She said I was the only person she ever met who you could drop off at a library and come back 10 hours later to get them and they would be perfectly happy.

I think people don’t really understand us introverts. Dropping me off in that library for 10 hours would be like a Caribbean or jungle cruise for a lot of other people. After all, you can go to the Caribbean or the jungle in books. Hell, you can travel everywhere in the whole damn world and even outside of it without even leaving the confines of the library.

To people like this learning and books are almost a sensual activity, an activity of the senses, like the cruises above or like eating, parties, sports, travel, or even listening to music or watching a movie, etc. for most people. We actually experience knowledge and learning in our bodies like a skier on the ski slopes. It’s not only a mind experience.

For some reason, people who have high IQ’s in either spatial, math, or verbal don’t usually come across as stupid no matter what their verbal score is.

I would add that auto mechanics can be an exception. I have known some that don’t appear particularly bright. They don’t appear stupid but they seem about as smart as an average person. One is a friend of mine. But I have set him to work to show me what is wrong with my car and he is a like a magician on a stage. He’s almost got a genius IQ in Auto Mechanics if there is such a thing. Mechanical IQ.

In fact, I have always been shocked at how bright my auto mechanics have been. They just seem like grease monkeys and they are typical working class guys who are rather course and don’t read much. They’re not intellectuals. But set them to work on your car and watch the magic begin. I saw a survey once at IQ’s of professions and I was stunned at how many mechanics had IQ’s over 130.

Then I thought back to the ones I had known and it made sense. And if you try them out on world problems, they’re bright enough. I remember once protesting to my mechanic about Bush’s proposed first Iraq War. But it’s all about money!” I protested. “Oil and money.” He smiled. “Oh they all are,” he said. “All wars are all about money.” Takes a pretty damn smart person to get outside the lies enough to figure that out.
