The Mod Lodge

Could you imagine that lodging in Vermont would satisfy your desire for high style, inspire you with museum quality art and historical romance… and pamper you with a luxurious spa and fine dining?  If this sounds good to you then check out Twin Farms in Barnard, Vermont. The Mod Lodge

Author Sinclair Lewis and journalist Dorothy Thompson purchased the 1795-era farmhouse on 300 acres in 1928.  For thirty years they created in this idyllic setting and entertained notable literary and political figures.  Thurston Twigg-Smith acquired the property in 1974.  By the late 1980s, the Twigg-Smiths decided to reinvent the property as a Bed and Breakfast and it soon became known as the number one small hotel in North America.

Interior designer Jed Johnson worked on the 15 accommodations in 1993.  In 2005, architect Peter Bohlin constructed Aviary and the Farmhouse at Copper Hill.  Interior Designer Thad Hayes’ work can be seen in the more recent accommodations.  And finally, landscape architect Dan Kiley perfected the details outdoors in the gardens and on the grounds.
As you can see below, these interiors are unique, well mixed elements of organic, natural influences with modern, chic pieces.  Fabulous artwork leads the way by masters such as Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns and Cy Twombly to name a few.  See below why this sophisticated manse is simply magical.
