The Lone Ranger just started shooting, and the first image of Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer (The Social Network, J. Edgar) as the lone ranger has already appeared online. Check out the image below:
With the star power of Johnny Depp, I would assume this was really written for Tonto to be the lead and Armie Hammer will play more of a supporting role. I could be wrong of course. What’s also interesting is how much Tonto looks like Jack Sparrow. Didn’t know Pirates were inspired by Indians, but there are weirder coincidences.
Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger also features Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is slated to open on May 31, 2013.
