The Kall Of Kagoule ...

Posted on the 30 December 2013 by Tlb Music Blog @TLB_Blog
Sometime ago now, in an interview, we were told to go ahead and give a band called Kagoule a go. If we're completely honest, we never did take that advice, and it's only now that we've managed to stumble across them organically, and whilst they're not what we would have expected from the band we had interviewed (Dog Is Dead), we think this remarkably grungy sound is actually pretty cool.
The Kall Of Kagoule ...Monarchy is the name of the single, and whilst it has almost been a year since its release, it still most definitely holds up as an absolute grunge classic that is something we reckon a fair few names could drop into in terms of comparison. There's something about this that says Nine Inch Nails to us, but also, a dash of Arctic Monkeys latest album ... it's really strange, but there really so many names that you can chuck about, yet, still maintaining the fact that they are definitely unique in their own right.
The vocal is not really what we would usually opt for, but again, it somehow manages to work with this track. You'd normally suspect something a lot rockier and harsher in terms of voice, but this relatively soft one, that lays itself on top of the metaphorical bed of nails, really sets itself a part and, ultimately, manages to become a part of the abstract masterpiece being crafted.
We know we could, and should, have given these guys a bit of a review a little while back, but we're sure as hell not going to lose them from our sights now that we've latched on. We'd like to see something with a little more pace, and a little more energy ... but for now, this rests brilliantly with us, and we can't wait to hear some more.
Paul.
