The Importance of ‘couple’ Time

I love being a Mum and family days out always fill me with so much pleasure, however, it is always nice when Big Mr A and I get to escape from family life for a few hours and do something just for the two of us.

We don’t get the opportunity very often as finances and babysitters aren’t always available, however, when we saw that The Darkness were going to be touring a few months ago both of us said that we had to go!  They are one of those bands that we really liked when they were around (10 years ago, can you believe it!) but had never had the chance to see.  We booked the tickets, and my Mum for babysitting duties.

On Friday our night off finally came.  We headed off to Scunthorpe (romantic hey!) in Big Mr A’s ‘boy’ car, stopping for a McDonalds drive thru on the way.

We had time for a couple of drinks when we arrived and a nice chat, reminiscing about old times and it was lovely not having to keep an eye on any children.

The Darkness were great and well worth seeing.  They played the whole of their Permission to Land album finishing off with a very festive Christmas Time (don’t let the bells end).

It is very easy to forget the good times when you get wrapped up in family life and all the fun and games that comes with it so it is really nice on those odd occasions when we do get to just be ourselves.

A gig might not be everyone’s idea of a romantic night out, however, for Big Mr A and I it is our perfect night.  Before the Little A’s came along we loved nothing more than a night listening to live music and, as they get older we intend to start going to see the bands we love again.

I really need to go and see a pop act soon though as Big Mr A’s musical influences seem to be taking over at the moment – we are going to see Steel Panther next year (in full ‘rock’ fancy dress apparently!).

What do you love to do when you get some time without the children?
