The Great Submission Challenge 5/100

By Crossstitchyourheart @TMNienaber

It’s already August.  Time is going by fast this summer and the countdown to my first day of grad school begins (read as I’m getting really excited and will stay that way until I realize I don’t have time to read for fun anymore).  But even with all the craziness that is about to ensue in the next few weeks I’m still trying to hold fast to my submission schedule.

This week’s submission is a little different than the previous ones because this agency actually queried me about a year ago.  One of their agents read a short story of mine that was published in Dark Petals E-zine and asked to read any book-length manuscripts I might have to consider representing me.

This agency doesn’t actually handle (at least not according to their website) YA manuscripts, but as I’ve already established some contact with them I thought I’d give it a try.  All they can say is “no” and it’s not like I won’t be hearing that word a lot during this quest.

The agency is Sobel-Weber based in New York, New York.  As they contacted me I had a specific email address to send my information to, but here are their unsolicited query guidelines according to their website.

Query letters should be snail mailed to a specific agent, not just to the agency, and names/addresses are listed on their site.  They have a 4 week turn around on queries and will let you know manuscript submission guidelines if they decide they want to read more.

I can’t believe I’m only at submission #5.  It seems like I’ve been at this a lot longer than that.  So anyone else taking part in the challenge this week?  How’s your writing going?  Feel free to share your progress in the comments!  And don’t forget you can follow me on twitter @xstitchurheart .
