As we age, our metabolism gradually slows down, more so, if we don’t exercise. Hence, it would do us good if we watch what we eat. Masarap talagang kumain but for our figure and health’s sake, we should be conscious eaters. Meaning, eat whatever you like but in moderation. Like with the sweets and junkfood, if you really cannot avoid them, then just consume sparingly. As for the high-caloric, fat laden food, if possible, just save them for special occasions - wag araw-arawin ang lengua, lechon, kare-kare at steak!
In our home, I usually prepare simple dishes for our everyday meals like tinola, sinigang, beef nilaga, ginisang ampalaya or munggo. Only on weekends do we indulge on rich foods or sometimes eat out para healthier and tipid na rin!
Although eating simple meals help in keeping myself slim, I think a “sexifying diet” is needed to lose some extra weight. Thankfully, there are now "Special Meal Delivery" services to make my life easier. Rather than planning and preparing an entirely different “diet” meal for myself, I can just subscribe to one of those meal deliveries para less hassle!
A few weeks ago, I learned about THE GOOD BOX and was able to sample a full-day set meal from them.
Informatively, The Good Box is a “Meal Delivery Program” that can serve six (6) different calorie menus for everyday of the week: 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100, 2400 and 2700 calories, to help you achieve your goals, whether it be slimming down, maintaining your weight, or trying to gain it.
They have their own nutritionist that makes sure that all your meals have the correct balance and proportion as each meal is carefully studied, revised, and finalized for maximum benefit.
Each of their menus are meticulously planned with proper proportions of fat, carbohydrates and protein for a balanced meal and they also make sure that every meal has the nutrients your body needs to keep itself fueled throughout the day.
The good Box also offers special meal programs such as: South Beach Diet, Diabetic Diet, Hypertensive Diet and Pregnant-Diabetic Diet which are very helpful and convenient for people with special diet needs.
Anyway, since I’m trying to lose a few pounds, I gladly tried their 1200kcal set menu for 1 day…
My meals for the day with a total count of only 1200 kcal!
Breakfast: Fruit & Nut Pancake and coffee (250 kcal)
AM Snack: Chewy Caramel Apple Cookies (150 kcal)
Lunch: Lemon Poached Chicken and Potato, Salad Vegetable Sticks with Dip (350 kcal)
Afternoon snack: Pita Chips with Guacamole Hummus Dip (180 kcal)
Dinner: Eggplant, Ricotta and Tomato Pappardelle, Salad (270 kcal)
So….how was it, you ask? Well, here’s my verdict:
Packaging: Originally, they claimed to use eco-friendly bagasse food packaging but I guess that’s not the case anymore as my food came in plastic microwaveables.
Presentation: It would be nice if they could make the food more visually presentable if not appealing so the clients wouldn’t feel so kawawa naman!
Taste:Considering that they’re “diet” food, they’re passable. I wouldn’t mind eating like this everyday as the meals that I sampled were filling and not bad tasting at all. I particularly liked the chicken, it was moist and tasty. I also love that snacks were included so I didn’t feel deprived at all. Their hummus dip was really good! I didn’t like lang their veggie dip and salad dressing.
Overall, The Good Box meals delivery service is satisfactory. I just hope they would really do something about the presentation and that they would use bagasse for their packaging again!
