After losing her fiancé in a tragic accident, Veronica Fisher finds solace in the old recipes stored in her mother’s hope chest—and in a special visitor who comes to her bake stand to purchase her old-fashioned raspberry pies. Veronica Fisher knows how lucky she is to be marrying her best friend. Seth Lapp is kind, hardworking, and handsome—but most importantly, he loves Veronica. When an accident on the job steals Seth away from her, a heartbroken Veronica is certain she will never love—or be loved—again.

Most of you know that my mother absolutely LOVES Amish stories. She once told me that she enjoys Amish stories because they share about times that seem more “simple” and the priorities of the Amish are clear – faith and family. Because of the fact that my mom likes to read, and doesn’t mind providing me with a book review when she’s finished, we decided that if any opportunities come up for book reviews on Amish books, she would gladly read them and provide me with her review.

Below is my mother, Gloria’s review of The Forgotten Recipe (An Amish Heirloom Novel) by Amy Clipston:

“This is a story of two people touched by tragedy and both are unable to move forward with their lives until they confront their shared past. It is about love, trust and forgiveness.

Veronica Fisher is devastated when her fiancé, Seth Lapp is killed in a tragic accident at work. Jason Huyard worked with Seth and they were best friends. Jason is having a hard time dealing with Seth’s death and thinks a lot about Veronica because Seth talked about her all the time. Following the accident, Jason feels compelled to share his grief and condolences with Veronica, who loved his friend also.

The forgotten recipe is a newly found, but old recipe stored in her mother’s hope chest in the attic, which is for a raspberry pie that Veronica’s grandmother used to make. Discovering this recipe, Veronica opens a bake stand in order to sell raspberry pies using her grandmother’s recipe. Jason Huyard quickly becomes a regular customer but does not tell her that he knew Seth. Slowly, as he gets to know Veronica, Jason begins to fall in love with Veronica, which is the last thing he wants to do.  Veronica is also hesitant to fall in love because of her promise to only love Seth. Jason visits the bake stand once a week for more than raspberry pies – they have something special!

This story is about two strangers – one loses the man she’s going to marry while the other loses his best friend.  This a wonderful story that will leave you hanging at the end of the book.  How will Veronica react when she finds out that she and Jason share a past? Jason has a secret – can it ruin their chance at happiness? Will Veronica trust Jason?”

If you want to read a story about love, loss and how one recipe brought two people together in ways they couldn’t imagine, you’ll probably want to read this book. As you can see, my mom isn’t giving you spoilers either!
