Free trade is ok in principle among nations that are relatively equal in economic terms. Free trade between nations which are massively unequal in economic terms is a cruel joke.
South Korea protected its market with huge trade barriers and tariffs until its companies were large enough to compete effectively with the rest of the world. This is the only way for any country to develop.
Any country wanting to develop needs to put up tariffs and trade barriers and protectionist legislation until its companies are large enough to compete with the big boys, “Free trade” between huge Western nations and third world banana republics is a cruel joke. It’s like having a foot race between an Olympic sprinter (the Western developed country) and as guy in a wheelchair ( the third world banana republic).
