“Chatter House “…The name sounded like a place to have conversations with a drink! And it was exactly so… When we went for the Blogger’s meet at Chatter House, a gastropub launched in September 2013, we were impressed with the variety of cocktails they offered on the menu ( and outside of the menu ;)
Yes, they are still trying to implement new Drinks and dishes in the menu which adds an excitement and newness everytime you visit ). Run by a cool dude Swadeep Popli who has traveled to US and UK and done some research on the pubs, clubs and lounges there… he says he wanted to open a place which gives a feeling of comfort, where people can sit, chill and enjoy their drink through the conversations and not be bothered by the staff to empty the tables. The location benefitted them, since it is located inside the Epicuria Food Mall which is right below the Nehru Place Metro Station. The Epicuria Mall is a new Hangout place with so many new restaurants and food joints coming up. So, you don’t really have to bother about “Drink and Drive “ after having a drink, as the Metro comes to the rescue :)
The interiors match the name, but we are tired of the exposed brick walls and quirky posters that seem to be a new-full proof interiors to give a chic feeling to a pub/cafeteria. The seating style is comfortable… We loved the open bar!!!
There is pool table, foosball table and the best part of the pub is the seating outside with garden metal chairs loaded with cushions!!! It was a pleasant winter , so we all decided to sit outside and enjoy the weather with the alcohol flowing on the table….The lion-head fountain at the entrance is nicely done and the aroma coming from the wood-fire oven right next to your seats takes you in a different zone altogether. The music played is always Retro or Rock of 70-80’s… not too loud but just perfect to enjoy the ambience.
Since they have got their alcohol liscence recently, they left no stone unturned to make the best Mocktails in town!! We tried all the House-specials. There is a drink for each’s taste here ! For those who like it spicy, there is Amrood Chaat ( mocktail ) which has a hint of tobacco, guava juice and lemonade. For those with a tangy taste, there is Gurkha Gureilla with tamarind, mango, rum and fresh lime! The Aam Panna vodka was okay, so was the Amrato Martini ( an almond based martini yet to implement in the menu ), but what really kicked with us is the Sharabi Nariyal ( served in tender coconut with vodka ), and the Watermelon Bomb ( served in a watermelon with it’s juice, white rum, and energy drink ). The different colours on the table just seemed eye-pleasing. The Blue Angel mocktail (with Curacao, lime and sprite), The Limeade Zaar ( Limeade, gingerale, vodka ) and the Green Tea Bourbon cooler ( Just a perfect drink for summers with Mint, bourbon, and chilled green tea ) were a visual treat!
With a huge menu for wine available, we tried a glass of the Watermelon Kiwi Sangria ( White wine with brandy, kiwi and watermelon ) and it tasted perfect!! Sangria is a fruit based wine punch from Portugal and Spain. It normally consists of wine, lil brandy, sweetener and chopped fruits. We loved the thorough knowledge of the alcohol the bartender Purushottam Anand had, and he readily took a cocoktail-workshop for all of us wherein we bloggers got to note/taste/make some interesting cocktails and mocktails!!! It was just getting better….
And then came the Signature Drink which they say, is served nowehere else in town – The Bubblegum Martini!!!! With a flavor of Bubblegum ( dipped in like a lollipop candy ), this was just the Drink of the Day!!!!A must-try!!!!!
Then we turned our heads at the food menu, and we saw a mix of European, Italian and Indian food. The menu offered a lot of “Platters” which work perfect with the corporate bunches who come there for lunch and also with students who leave with stomach full, knowing they got value for money spent! So you have a choice between a pizza, pasta, burger and also kebab and Biryani!!! There’s also the all-day meals of omelettes and French toast, and We also loved the fact that they have a good choice for sandwiches ( a menu-option normally turned down by a lot of restaurants/pubs these days! )
The House Vegetarian Platter definitely scored a point with us. It had house made Labne, Hummous, babaghanoush, pita bread, feta stuffed crispy mushrooms ( the best of it all), paneer tikka and a bowl of raita with mini rotis. The Beer-battered Fish and chips smelled great and the nonvegetarians finished it in no-time! The Spanish potatoes were average, but the onions rings were light and crispy and just with no-dripping oil, as is normally served around in pubs ! The House special Bacon wrapped Mac and Cheese Bites were tasty, but the seekh kebab, chicken tikka and chicken malai tikka was found to be average.
We tried The burger sliders ( Chicken juicy lucy, Loaded tenderloin, Moroccan lamb and the falafel Haloumi ) and thought the patty to be too dry. The cheese and house-made buns made up for it, but the patty needs to be a little moist. The Veg burger patty tasted the same.
The Barbequed Pork Ribs served with warm butter buns were juicy and succulent.
The Risotto and Bean rice served with chicken was good, but the ooh-la-la dish of the day was the Pizza.
Just the perfect pizza we have had in a long time… freshly baked thin crust served with the right amount of toppings and cheese… yummy to the core!!! All the pizzas are worth a try!!! There are a lot of combos that you can do with an alcoholic/non alcoholic drink and the friendly staff and the smiling chef Honey who was in US, and then working with Carnival Cruise for 6 years, readily help us decide on it !
And yes, All this comes at a super-reasonable price ! The quanity is good enough, and you would not feel a burn in your wallet !Overall, the place is must visit if you are in Nehru place or around and want to catch up with friends over a drink or even if you want to grab a quick bite and leave!!! We Loved the “Chatter” here…:)
