The Body Shop Extra Virgin Mineral Foundation in Shade Golden Ivory - Review and Swatches

By Get Set Blush @GetSet_Blush

Hey girls.. What is your favorite foundation finish? Is it Matte, Satin or Dewy? For me it has changed from my early 20s to now, my early 30s. At 21, I preferred a more matte finish as my skin was more normal to oily.  But now I find that matte foundations sometimes ages me; so I tend to prefer using a dewy finish foundation as my skin type has also changed to normal to dry. In fact it is advisable to keep more than 1 finish for foundations as your skin behaved differently by day, by season and by age.    Today I will be reviewing a nice dewy finish foundation from The Body Shop.

From The Body Shop Canada website:
“This liquid mineral foundation is a unique combination of pure minerals and cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. It provides light to medium, ultra-blendable coverage with a smooth, dewy finish. Light to medium coverage; Dewy finish; Ultra-blendable; No added fragrance; Paraben free.”  Price: It retails for around $25CAD [approx. INR 1300] for 25ml. Around 10 shades are listed in the website.

Packaging: It comes in a transparent glass casing and there is a pump dispenser, which I like; I really hate it when liquid foundation jars have no dispenser or so to control the flow.  A point to note is that although this is touted as a mineral foundation, this is not – a true mineral foundation is a loose powder foundation; anything pressed, liquid or cream is diluted and no longer eligible to be considered so. So, if you have very sensitive skin and is searching for a mineral foundation, don’t be distracted by the name of this or any other product.

My Experience with the product:  I got this foundation in shade Golden Ivory for daily wear as I didn’t want the hassle of a full coverage foundation on a busy working day [I hardly get 10-15mins for dress-up]. Let me 1st tell you what I don’t like, so you can decide if that is a deal breaker for you. This foundation does not last very long – I get a maximum stay of 4-5 hours if I set it with a powder. Usually after lunch, I do a re-touch using my trusty Marcelle BB cream. I also find that applying this with fingers, does not give me the best finish – something like a beauty blender is the best, followed by a brush. If you prefer using a tool, then you’re good. Another issue is that, this takes some time to set on its own. However you can speed up the process by patting-and-blotting.
Now to what I like:  This gives a beautiful glow and kind of brightens my face in the morning. It applies very easily with a brush but if I am in a hurry, I mix it with a face lotion or sunscreen, to make the application easier. It gives a very My-Skin-But-Better look, and I usually skip highlighter & just stick with my blush.  Swatches: I know it looks a bit more yellow but wait..

Pros: 1.Nice dewy finish foundation. 2.Good for normal to dry skin for winter, if like me your skin becomes dry. 3.Does not irritate skin, no strong fragrance 4.Does not settle into pores 5.Easy to blend Cons: 1.Average staying power 2.Need a brush or sponge for best application 3.Slightly long setting time 4.Tad bit expensive considering that it almost costs as much as MAC Studio Fix Fluid but has lesser coverage Overall Thoughts:  The big question-will I buy again? Hmm, no… Not because I have anything against this foundation – it does everything it claims; I have since discovered much better foundations, so Bye Bye TBS.. About the Author [Devi]:
