The Best GPS Running Watch Is…

By Brisdon @shutuprun

The day has come to say goodbye. We have been together for over three years and you’ve been with me on almost every run during that time. You are awkward and large, but I have loved you anyway. You’ve been dependable, but now you’re not.

On today’s early morning ride, my Garmin crapped out. It’s been losing battery power for a few months now, but I’ve been too cheap to get a new one. Now I’m faced with the sad (yet fun) reality that it is time to go shopping.

Out with the old…   In with…

I only have a few requirements:

  • GPS
  • Heart rate monitor
  • Under $250
  • Multi sport capability (I use it when I cycle too, swimming is optional)
  • User friendly – because I can be a dumbass with technology
  • Microwave oven capability (for those times on the trail when you want to heat a Hot Pocket)

39 months ago when I bought my Garmin Forerunner 205, I paid $130. This means it has cost me .11¢ per day to own this watch. I don’t know what that means or why I figured that out. All I know is it’s been one of my best investments, after that quesadilla maker.

So, tell me what to get.

What kind of running watch do you have? How much did it cost and would you buy it again?

Do you know of any good deals out there right now? I know Costco has some good deals. Right now the Forerunner 410 is on sale for $199, but I’m not sure if that’s a good deal or not. Costco also has a Garmin Golf GPS watch, so I might quit running and take up the most boring sport in the universe (just my .02¢)
