One thing that struck me abot the psychiatric hospital while my son was there, was how little help was on offer. However, there was one thing that they do best … is keep one safe until treatment starts working, and that’s really what my son needed. He needed a safe place, a protected place that would protect him and make sure he would be alive to see more tomorrows. And that’s what the psychiatric hospital gave him. If my son had not been so very ill, he probably would have managed without going into a hospital.
And I think it’s important to remember that life is worth the unpleasant experience of the hospital as one’s time there is usually short-lived. Psychiatric hospitals aren’t always the stuff of nightmares but they most definitely do not resemble the content of movies on the subject.
