Sweet Corn-channa Dal Fritters

By Harini
Sweet corn-channa dal frittersA bowl of crunchy snacks definitely does a thing or two for many people.Hot pakoda or bajjis with tea is a blissful time indeed and one can never have enough recipes for these treats. So here I am sharing one more interesting pakoda/fritter recipe using sweet corn.Gram dal/channa dal/kadalai paruppu is much known for making crispy snack varieties and here I have used it instead of gram flour,as when coarsely ground gram dal gives a dish more crunch than gram flour would provide. It is such a simple recipe that you can put together even on a week day morning as side dish for any variety rice or make it is a lovely snack to nibble along with coffee.Which ever way you serve it,this will be a winner for sure :)

1/4 cup gram dal(kadalai paruppu)
2 teaspoons black gram(urad dal) (optional)
3 green chillies
1" piece ginger
Salt
Other ingredients:
2 teaspoons corn flour
1 onion sliced thin
1/4 cup cilantro leavesMethod:
1/2 green bell pepper chopped fine
Method:
1.Soak channa and urad dal in water for 30 minutes.
2.Drain and grind to a very coarse paste along with the ingredients mentioned in"to grind".
3.Now Mix all the other ingredients to the ground paste.
4.Heat oil for deep frying.
5.Once the oil is hot pinch small portions from the batter and drop in the oil carefully.Deep fry till golden from both sides and drain on a kitchen towel.
6.Serve hot with coffee or as side dish with rice.
Notes:
1.Adding urad dal makes these fritters some what soft in the interior,we like that way.If you want you can avoid urad dal.
2.Do not add water while grinding and just pulse the ingredients 3-4 times. If you grind smoothly the batter will become watery.
3.If the corn kernels leave water add one more teaspoon corn flour to the mixture.
