surul poli recipe - easy festival recipes

surul poli which is so easy to make and this is the time to post ,as this is the festive season.I made this a week back and you can make this within minutes and did not need any stuffing or rolling.I already shared beetroot poli and surul poli with wheat flour.Check that recipes for more ideas.

Like usual poli/obbatu recipe, this too needs all purpose flour, you can also make it 50% whole wheat flour. The stuffing is so simple with pottukadalai/roasted gram along with sugar and cardamom. The sugar syrup will be with sugar, cardamom powder, saffron strands and rose water.

This recipe is originated from Tanjore and there this sweet is more famous like ashoka halwa/moongdal halwa. There they make this sweet or somas/gujjia for festive seasons in more numbers to distribute them to nears and dears.

Eventhough i shared the recipe already,i made it with whole wheat flour and i did not satisfied that time with taste. So made it last week again with 25 %whole wheat flour and took pictures of it again.I think this time, its gonna be sweet/dessert rain again in blog, because it did not took any pictures of snack varieties for this festive season.mm.,will try to make some of it soon.

You can make this with your leftover pooris too and serve them as an instant sweet.I drizzled some chocolate syrup over it to make it more appetizing.Sprinkle some of the filling over it and serve.

The trick for this recipe is,once you deep fry the pooris, remove it without browning and add it to the sugar syrup and remove it immediately.now fill the one side with filling mixture and start rolling. You can also use toothpick to make it sealed well.
