2012 in Review

So, 2012 was fun.

In the past year, we listened to more music than we have ever listened to, broadened some horizons or whatever, and survived Lana Del Rey jumping the shark, mounting it, and riding it off into the sunset alone.

Resolutions are good, but reflections are good too. Here’s a quick glance at our 2012 in review.

Best search terms that somehow led people to mattneric.com:

10. “leave britney alone” (1 view): An absolutely relevant search term, as we have written literally nothing about Britney Spears.

9. “rock song that goes oh oh oh oh oh (low tone on the last 3 ohs)” (1 view): I hope they found what they were looking for.

8. “missiles on your forehead” (3 views): No doubt a mishearing of the Big Pun lyric “carving my initials on your forehead” sampled in Jessie Ware’s song “110%”. I’m not the only one who heard it that way, apparently.

7. “mark n eric top 50 albums” (2 views): Close enough.

6. “aim and egg night fun the album songs on it” (1 view): Close enough.

5. “skrillex product placement” (4 views): What?

4. “carly rae jepsen hot pants” (4 views): No comment. Not a single comment.

3. “skrillex in coma” (16 views): If we were somehow responsible for propagating this internet rumor, we *sincerely* apologize.

2. Variations of the question “What is the song Some Nights by Fun about?” (600+ views): There are far too many people searching for cosmic significance in autotune.

1. Variations of the question “Who is the guy yelling in the background of Lana Del Rey songs?” (too many to count): For every young searcher hoping to glean something meaningful from a band called fun., there were about fifty thousand trying to figure out WHO IS YELLING IN THE BACKGROUND OF ALL THOSE LANA DEL REY SONGS. We’ve asked the same question.

Important Reflections:

Blogging about new music is fun and we’re going to keep doing it. Just a few changes we’ll probably be making for ’13:

- We’re going to throw away the monthly playlists. Because meh.

- We’re going to just review stuff when we feel like it, instead of doing an album every week. This way, nothing awesome slips through the cracks, and we won’t review mediocre stuff just because it was the best mediocrity to come out in a given week.

- No touching of the hair or face.

- And that’s it. Thanks for reading.
