I love how every time I feel I’ve seen it all, the style gods send some new inspiration on my way and prove me that I was wrong!
I discovered Hirari Ikeda one day while spending an entire afternoon browsing through Tokyo Fashion’s street style archives –ah, the things one can do during the holidays! –, and she immediately caught my eye.
Dark jeans, studded platform shoes and monochrome mini-braids combined with that spectacular electric blue gown.
While I have to confess that I am not a fan of all of her looks, it is evident that the trait I admire the most about her is her incredibly daring and unrestricted expression of style. She’s not afraid of experimenting and being extreme. When she dresses up, you can tell that she’s not just trying to be pretty and fashionable; she’s making a statement through her clothes, and there is a certain artistic quality in her way of dressing.
A more casual, more Goth-inspired look. I love the messy, high hairstyle and red lips.
Hirari Ikeda's Instagram candids are a joy to scroll through, just check out that amazing jewel studded top and corset!
From the street style photoshoots of Tokyo Fashion: bright, girly colors combined with some though-looking accesories (pentagram, spiked headband, black satin blouse with sharp collar). The purple eyebrows are my favorite part of this look.
What to do when you have a few pairs of leftover jeans laying around? Transform them into a crazily ripped oversized jacket, of course! In spite of the denim statement piece, the par of this outfit that really caught my eye was the psychodelic Alice in Wonderland printed suspenders plus giant platform shoes combo.
As if the clothing she wears wasn't enough, Hirari usually sports some rather eccentric, over-the-top and bizarre make up along with it. Thin septum rings, bindis and colored contact lenses are some of her staples.
Never afraid to experiment. The many faces of Hirari Ikeda.
Black PVC choker and harness top, tulle skirt and printed rose leggings: dark and edgy, but sweet and cute at the same time.
Minimal make up and bleached eyebrows contrast with high-impact colored and streaked hair.
A more hip hop-inspired looked with a dramatic cat-eye and shimmery brown smokey eye. Notice the amazing pattern and colors of the top she's wearing underneath that oversized hoodie.
Thigh high leather boots complementing a sweater mini-dress with an abstract design.
Neon pastel colors and black lace give this outfit a slightly gothic and futuristic look.
What do you think of Hirari's style? Looking through her constantly evolving sense of aesthetics, she inspires me to be much more daring and bold in my own personal style. I aspire to feel as confident and natural as she does in her self-expression through her make up and clothing.
