Just back from a great afternoon at Heatherley.
The class wasn't crowded and the model posing for us is having an interesting presence. Somehow, I found it easy to work and enjoyed diving into graphite drawing this afternoon.
This is a first study and I will switch to oil or pastel next week. I believe there is something to explore further. I was immediately attracted by her profile. I exaggerated (a bit) the curves offered by the hat - I felt that she was profoundly human : a presence, a look and a mouth expression reminding of the hard experiences one can receive in Life, yet, there was something warm and smooth in her attitude. And I am looking forward to the next session to see how my perception will evolve.
Here she is:
Seated Women, Graphite Study - 60X50 cm
I start to feel more at ease with graphite... freer with the Human Figure than what I use to be. I would not say more confident... As still, I feel I could tend to more expressive drawings.
