Happy morning friends! I’ve missed you the last few days. I was detoxing off sugar and white flour for 4 days and I’m finally done. My eats were not that appetizing looking or exciting so I decided to spare you the horror. I realize a choice like detoxing is a little weird but basically I felt like my diet was way to sugar and complex-carbohydrate focused. I’ve been using My Fitness Pal to track most of my calories and when I saw my daily percentage breakdown I was horrified that my carb intake was usually over 65%! So to get control I ate no carbs or sugar for 4 days.
Breakfast
I’m all about the carbs. Please don’t think I’m not. I just don’t want to be eating so many and I want to eat good ones, like whole grain/sprouted grain breads, veggies, fruits and stay away from saltines, biscuits, candy, etc.
I made oatmeal for breakfast! I’d been craving oatmeal and peanut butter like crazy.
These oats are delicious, very mapely. Which I loved.
In the mix
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup light soy milk
- 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
- a few drops of vanilla
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp milled flax seeds
- 1 tsp molasses
- pinch salt
- 1 TBSP organic peanut butter
Simply boil all ingredients (minus the peanut butter) for about 5 minutes and enjoy. I always stir my peanut butter in once I take pictures, but you don’t have to.
I couldn’t find my little point and shoot this morning so I used my big Canon EOS (which is not a Rebel but my dad’s hand-me-down professional grade D-series with a macro lens). Darn blurry pictures.
My oatmeal was about 310 calories and my tea was 20! So filling for so little a number
I’m all about a new brand of breakfast tea. It’s called Choice and I found it at my super market. I really like it. The flavor is smoother than the Yorkshire I was drinking. I obviously drank it with soymilk.
Back to the detox.
I realize that a detox is a really drastic approach and it’s not for everyone. I wanted to quickly get all sugar out of my system. So ultimately I could eliminate cravings and build back with whole grains and less processed sugars.
I didn’t do this to lose weight and I didn’t do this as a quick fix. I detoxed as a catalyst to jump-start my choice to attempt to eat less processed sugar.
