Some Advice for Young Mums and Pampers

By Shalinidigvijay @shalinidigvijay
There's something bittersweet about hospitals.Bitter, because theres so much pain and disguised hope that floats around. And sweet ,especially in obstetrics, because its here that the harbingers of hope arrive.Babies. Tiny little bundles of Joy. Those little bundles that spread happiness even in their wails. As I blog, I'm waiting my turn at the hospital, and am surrounded by a major baby boom. Major ,I say ,because there are atleast 11 new borns around.  All in some state of spreading joy. One behind me has just done pulling my already unmanageable hair and making it worse for the wear. And poor soul ,you'll never guess what he's here for?
Nappy Rash.
Imagine.
And me ,in all my omniscient swag blurted out "Pampers nahi Pehnaya that kya?"Turns out...mummy had been using another brand of diapers.
Now sweet child outgrew diapers the longest time ago but the trusted brand even 15 years ago was also Pampers.
Diapers were an extremely expensive proposition those days and were generally used when we had to go out.
But nappy rash was a real thing.
And with us stationed at places at least an hours drive away from primary pediatric care ,one had to be super careful. Also, with neither set of grandparents around to offer advice, we were devotees of DrSpock  and his bible of baby care. Some advice for Young Mums and Pampers
And after going through the book diligently we learnt that -Indeed ,prevention was better than cure.Neither of us is a fan of any kind of medication. And we never wanted to practice on sweet child.Cotton nappies, frequently changed and a large amount of time allowing the skin to breathe super free was what I followed.
Of course it meant that I had to be super vigilant, but it also meant that sweet child was toilet trained by the time he started walking.
I had concocted my own potion to keep baby bums super soft and baby blues sparkling with laughter.
In a brown beer bottle ,of course after washing and drying and sunning it, I stored a little mix of oils and some greens.
That was the oil I used for massaging sweet child to keep his skin soft. And this is an oil I used instead of nappy rash creams. Let's face it, they were not so readily available 15 years ago. A formula so perfect, that come winters, its something I use even today.
For the
Soft Bum Oil
All you need is
100 mils Extra Virgin Coconut oil
100 mils Extra Virgin Olive oil
100 mils Almond Oil
10 mils mustard oil
1 gm Saffron
2-3 neem leaves.
Mix and Pour into the beer bottle and sun often. The colored glass absorbs the energy of the sun .
Extra Virgin coconut oil is extracted from coconut milk . So its the best thing you can use for a babies skin.
Extra virgin olive oil and almond oil are known for their therapeutic benefits.
Mustard oil adds the warmth, astringency and gives strength to bones.
Neem leaves are antiseptic and saffron is known to make skin softer and fairer.
Its fantastic as a massage oil and leaves babies skin so soft ,you want to keep nuzzling him.
And while you're at it ,use the same oil on yourself to keep your skin as soft as  your babies bum.
And my advice to the new mums.
Change diapers often.
Make sure you wash the baby before every diaper  change or at least use wipes.
And then dry and use copious amounts of a good oil to rub on babies bum.
Allow God's fresh air to kiss the babies bottom often.
Use the best diapers money can buy.
Use Pampers.
Because a baby's laughter is precious. And believe me, so is your sleep. These five pointers will ensure you never have a "baby didn't sleep "hangover.
