Oh. My. God.
Slammed was amazing.
Which is weird because there were so many reasons why I should have disliked Slammed. Poetry slamming is not my idea of romantic. It’s kind of wimpy and I’m not into guys who are super into poetry. The relationship conflict (which I won’t spoil) between Lake and Will? One of my most hated types of conflicts. I absolutely hate it. Also, Lake cries a lot, which I hate.
But I LOVE Slammed.
It was so real, raw, and beautiful. It wasn’t a book that tried to cut you open. It wasn’t a story that tried too hard to make you cry. It was just a naturally flowing story with tons of highs and lows. I cried and I laughed and I cried, sometimes on the same page. I rooted for Will and Lake and loved them.
I loved the supporting characters. The kids. The mom. Basagna? Lungs for Halloween? OMG. I laughed and cried. Lake never made me angry and made me want to hit her upside the head for being stubborn. Even though she was totally being stubborn.
Slammed was so good. I love Colleen Hoover.
I never cry. I never let sappy books get to me. But Slammed was just.. perfect.
I highly recommend it. Also,having that love interest that guy that recites poetry that I find so unattractive? I thought it worked pretty well. Nothing lame about his poetry at all. I guess sometimes things can surprise you.
