Do you know that Sizzler is a chain of restaurant in USA? It started off in 70s and served steaks – a great steak meal at affordable price that gave customersthe feel of full-service restaurant! So one can presume that sizzler is an American dish, however on searching through google – I came upon another article that states - Sizzler originated from our very own Mumbai.
A restaurant named “Sizzler”was opened by a Parsi Gentleman in 1963 in fort area. You can read the full article herehttp://mumbaiboss.com/2012/01/02/because-we-invented-the-sizzler/But then again the sizzler chain has it’s history that states - all began on January 27, 1958. With fifty dollars in the cash register, Del and Helen Johnson opened "Sizzler Family Steak House" in Culver City, California.Anyways – whichever way the dish came into being – I love the concept of its full meal in itself! Most of the Indian restaurants serve beans and veggies along with steak that ends up ruining the taste. Here is what I read about sizzler and I agree with it - "Sizzler" is an open-roasted, grilled or shallow fried piece of meat, chicken, fish or vegetable patty, served with french fries, shredded cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, french beans etc., served on a metal or stone hot plate, kept on a wooden base. The word "sizzler" comes from the sizzle that one hears when, after heating the dish under a grill (the meat is usually cooked separately to conserve time), the Worcestershire Sauce based gravy is poured on, which dribbles on the hot plate and heats up. Few of the bloggers were invited to enjoy the taste and texture of these sizzlers. We tried veg as well as non-veg sizzlers. They were amazing - veggie were sautéed well and not overcooked and had the perfect crunch. Accompaniments were really good that made the sizzler a complete meal in itself. My favorites were Smoked Chipotle Pepper, Hungarian Steak Stew, Lebanese Veg Fajita and Herb Lemon Crusted Chicken Scallopini.
I strongly recommend that you should visit and try these sizzlers. You will love it.
