As autumn draws to a close, it’s time to wrap up warm and prepare for what is predicted to be a very cold winter. Forecasters have warned of sub-zero temperatures within the month, as the country might be tipped into a Siberian winter following what has been quite a mild, albeit wet, autumn. The good news? Experts think the UK is headed towards a white Christmas. All of which means that you now have as good an excuse as any to stock up on warm jumpers and puffer jackets. Look to Siberia for inspiration as to how to carry off the bulky look in style. Fur seems to be the most popular answer in the Russian state, with models boasting fur jackets, fur boots and fur hats.Of course, this might be slightly more controversial in England, with Dame Vivienne Westwood recently condemning the use of fur, banning it from all designs in her future collections and donating all remaining stock containing fur to animal charities. PETA, the animal rights organization, have been working very hard to encourage designers to denounce fur with the support of high profile celebrities such as Sadie Frost, Pamela Anderson and Dita Von Teese.Their Go Naked campaign, which consists of nude photographs of high profile supporters, has earned them a lot of media attention and given the movement a huge amount of influence and power. As well as fellow Brit Stella McCartney, other animal rights campaigners that have also banned fur include designers Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, with Westwood being the most recent convert to the cause. They are all encouraging people to wrap up in more ethical and synthetic materials, which can prove to be equally luxurious alternatives. One option is to shop for Superdry, where you can find winter warmers including cosy hoodies and great coats that combine ski-jacket functionality with faux-fur style. The look is there, then, meaning you can dress Siberian - without incurring the wrath of the animal rights campaigners!
