TERA Environmental Consultants is recruiting for a GIS Technician for its Calgary office to assist in the preparation of a variety of cartographic products in support of its environmental planning practice. This is a full time, 6 month contract position.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a keen eye for cartographic design and will be capable of producing high quality cartographic products
  • Have a strong working knowledge of ArcGIS
  • Perform spatial and tabular analysis
  • Prioritize, organize and perform multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Be fully functional in office productivity software
  • Be a self-starter with superior technical and organizational skills
  • Be capable of working independently but within an open team context
  • Be familiar with data creation, printing and metadata maintenance
  • Energy sector industry experience and graphic design software skills would be considered assets

Preference will be given to candidates with cartographic training and those who can demonstrate their cartographic experience.

Cultural Resource Specialist – Environmental Planner
Calgary, Alberta
The successful candidate will join our growing Cultural Resources department in the Calgary Office and work as part of a multi disciplinary project team.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct project-related tasks, including research, report writing, field work and stakeholder and regulatory consultation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with government regulators, clients and First Nations.
  • Prepare sections of environmental assessments, project/cumulative effects and recommend mitigation measures.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in environmental studies/planning or related field of study. A Masters degree would be an asset.
  • 4 to 5 years (Environmental Planner) related planning and Aboriginal consultation experience, working on projects under various jurisdictions (municipal, regional, provincial and federal); preference will be given to candidates with consultation, pipeline and/or powerline experience.
  • Demonstrated ability as an environmental planning project leader and to manage multi-disciplinary environmental project teams.
  • Excellent communication and client relations skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental assessment legislation, environmental assessment processes, and other related environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental approvals and permitting processes with various agencies, and the ability to secure project-related approvals and permits.

Proven ability to prepare comprehensive reports and plans.
Knowledge of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and National Energy Board’s Filing Manual requirements a definite asset.
