Security Concerns

By Saltykisses @svprili
DSCN1111[1]After hearing of the recent attack on a British couple in St. Lucia, Caribbean leaving the husband dead and the wife in hospital. You can read the article here from the UK Telegraph. We have been thinking long and hard about the security we have on Salty, and it’s pretty much slim to none. But really when you think about it other than locks on your doors and windows what security do you have in a house? Unless of course you live in the south (United States) where you carry an arsenal of weapons. You can always lock your boat’s front door, the hatch but if you’re on anchor in the tropics you’re likely to have all your hatches wide open with just mosquito netting between you and world around. Our girls have leant to climb their shelves and out of their hatches so we only leave theirs open a few inches. We don’t need no sneaky feet on deck in the middle of the night. So what do we keep onboard? We don’t carry any guns due to customs and the laws of countries we wish to visit in the future. The last thing we want is for Carl to lose his captains license and be put in jail. As you see above we have a pretty hardcore weapons collection consisting of a mini bat, the largest torch/flashlight I’ve ever seen and bear spray. From what I read on the packaging the bear spray will spray up to 30’ and disperse the entire can at once. Beware, we may not shoot you in the foot but we will blind you with our bear spray and beat you senseless with our mini bat. Afterward you may find an extra large torch jammed up somewhere uncomfortable. I was thinking of slowly adding extra pieces to our arsenal like a spear gun, flare gun and a machete. Who knows what we’ll pick up along the way. Any ideas and recommendations for our boat security?
