Rustic Twig Vase

By Invisiblestilettos
Good day darlings!  Today, I made another simple home project.  I love bringing the outdoors inside our home.  I think flowers, faux or real, makes a room so much more beautiful.  These faux peonies I bought at a local store were only 40 pesos a bunch.  The vase I used was almost free as I just gathered some twigs and used some string and Styro which I already have at home.  I really liked the rustic vibe it had.  I think I would put these at our bedside tables but I will surely move them around the house from time to time.  I love changing things up as I get bored so easily.Rustic Twig Vase
For this project, we will need the following materials:
1.  Jute string
2.  A small saw
3.  Twigs
4.  Styrofoam
5.  Scissors
6.  A small carton box
Oopss..I forgot to mention, you will also need a cutter for your Styrofoam.Rustic Twig Vase
First up, decide how tall your twigs will be.  I cut mine about 4 inches tall each. This size is perfect for my peonies to just peak through.   I wanted the vase about the size of a small rectangular bread pan.Rustic Twig Vase
Cut about 50 to 60 twigs per vase .  For this project, I am making two vases so I will need about 120 twigs.  You can cut more or less than this amount depending on the thickness of the twigs and the size of your vase.  The smaller the vase, the less twigs you will need.Rustic Twig VaseNext, get your box then cut it in half.  I am using this recycled taco box.  Join the two parts of the box together to form a smaller box.  Set this aside.Rustic Twig VaseGet a sharp cutter then cut 2 pieces of Styrofoam the same size as the box you made.  The Styrofoam must fill the entire box.  This is where we will stick our flowers in place later.Rustic Twig VaseNext, get your twigs.   Tie a single knot at the center of your first twig.  This will make our vase stick together without using glue stick or wood glue.  I found glue stick does not adhere to the wood as much and the wood glue is very messy plus because our twigs do not have perfect shape, the glue will peak through and be more visible which is very unsightly.Rustic Twig VaseNext, attach your second twig by tying another single knot.  Do this for the rest of your twigs until you reach the desired length.  Just add a twig then tie a single knot to attach it.Rustic Twig VaseAfter you tied all the twigs at the center, we need to make our vase stronger by doing the same for the top and bottom.  Again, tie a single knot for each twig. Rustic Twig VaseOnce you are done tying your twigs, just bring the two ends of the string and tie it to the very first twig you made to secure.  Place the Styrofoam inside the box then place your box inside your newly formed twig vase.Rustic Twig VaseSecure the twigs to the box by making sure you tied the knots tightly.  The ties should be snug so the twigs are not wobbly.Rustic Twig VaseStick the flowers of your choice to your Styrofoam and you are done!  Note:  If you do not like the idea of using a box and Styrofoam, you can always use a clear glass vase and wrap it with the twigs, much more easier :)  I just used what I already have in our house, so box and Styro it is!Rustic Twig VaseI love how it turned out :) I hope you did too!
Have fun!
