Robert Stark Interviews Bay Area Guy About the SF Bay Area & the Pitfalls of American Exceptionalism

Posted on the 29 October 2015 by Calvinthedog

This is really nice. Bay Area Guy and Dota are former posters here who split off to form their own website. However, they both acknowledge a debt to this website where they were birthed. Hopefully we can have some more spin-offs.

BAG and Dota are both more conservative than I am (Dota especially so)and that was probably a factor in why they split off. Their website seems to be centered around attacking the lousy IP Cultural Left, while they are much more subtle and diverse on economics, the role of the state, social programs, etc.

In those areas, BAG sounds more like a Leftist like me, while Dota is more of a traditional conservative. A lot of my commenters drifted over there and spend most of their time over there nowadays. This ought to be an insult except my traffic is so huge there is no reason to care and also frankly most of the commenters who left me were of the more conservative bent who were prob ably always a bit uncomfortable here, as most conservatives are.

Hey, Beyond Highbrow is an acquired taste like coffee, beer or cigarettes, and like all of those things, a lot of folks never do get used to this site. We are pretty much out to alienate just about everybody here, but really most ideologies deserve to be ripped into anyway. Think of Beyond Highbrow like an Old Testament prophet, howling rage into the wind-whipped desert storms. Or like the Sex Pistols, raging at just about everything. Or dean in Rebel without a Cause. Or Celine. Or the Germs. Or the nihilist of your choosing.

I did enjoy this interview with BAG and I listened to quite a bit of it. I must say I agree with most of what he says here. He may not be as heterogeneous and sui generous as we are here, but he’s headed down that trail.

Anyway, enjoy the interview!

Interview here.
