I was just on my way out to the lunch time AA meetingI was getting in to my carWhen my phone pinged a text messageIt was from a girl I went to school withIt said that a guy we both knew had been found deadI looked at the messageTrying to let the words sink in
Young guyFound dead
I tried to process the informationStarted the car and set offI had so many questionsWhat had happened?Where was he found?Was it drugs related?
But first things first I needed to get to the meetingI made it there a little late I was in my own little world Thinking about the guyWe knew each other through drugsWe stayed in the same house And basically hot in a lot of troubleWe were never best buddiesWe were friends through drugs 
The sad thing is That this is not uncommon in the drug world Overdosing goes with the territoryHe isn't the first to die this wayAnd he won't be the lastBut stillIt's shocking If not surprising 
My heart goes out to this guys family they are in a world of hurt right nowAnd I thank my lucky starsMy familyMy friendsAnd my higher powerThat I got outI made it outRelatively unscathed
I can remember When me and my ex boyfriend first move in together We were renting a room in a house where 3 bikers livedThis guy came and stayed with us for a whileDrugs featured a lot and drinkIt could have do easily been me and that is a scary thought
They say in the meetingsThere but for the grace of God go INow I know what that means
