Magic Bleeds is my favorite of the series so far and it has definitely cemented my love of the series. What started out as a “maybe” series to me has rapidly become a favorite. I love the action, the unique world, the main character, all of the supporting characters, the romance, and the plot. I love that the series is adult, but it’s fairly clean and the character isn’t up her love interest’s ass and they aren’t having sex on every page. It’s not really like YA, though, as Kate is an adult, has adult responsibilities, and struggles with life. It's the perfect adult series if you want a good story with romance without it being a "paranormal romance" novel.
Magic Bleeds did have a bit more focus on the relationship between Kate and Curran, but after the events of Magic Strikes and Curran’s proposition that if he found her before 72 hours, she would need to make him dinner, one of the clear mating signs of the Pack, I knew that there were some details that this book would have to hammer out.
Kate wasn’t used to having friends, relying on others, or caring about the welfare of others. It went against everything she was trained for as a child. In the previous books, she began to slowly make friends, care, and admit to herself that she did, in fact, have feelings for Curran. In Magic Bleeds, Kate realized she needed to start including the people she cared about in her life and battles.
The Pack definitely had some strange social mating rituals, but mating with an alpha was even trickier, as it meant proving yourself, becoming an alpha, too, and presenting a strong show of force as a team. It was difficult for Kate to accept all of it, especially when it put the Pack in danger as result of her past. The villain causing the problems in Magic Bleeds also put a lot of stress on Kate because of the connection to her past.
I definitely recommend the Kate Daniels series. I’m loving every book and the series gets better and better as I read on.
