Gemini Rising was probably one of the most unique YA paranormal premises that I’ve ever come across. I can honestly say that I’ve never read a book like it and it’s absolutely impossible to compare it to anything. The unique plot is what kept me interested throughout the book and it was hard to put down.
The earth was dying thanks to the carelessness of humans. The Gemini served Mother Earth on a quest to revitalize the planet and restore balance. Unfortunately, the objective was to destroy human civilizations, typically by possessing humans and wreaking havoc. The Gemini were unlike typical paranormal creatures. And one of them fell in love with a human…
If you are a fan of YA paranormal romance, but you’re tired of the same plot over and over, Gemini Rising will be a surprising read for you. There are so many creatures out there and variations of the same creatures and always a reason why they can’t fall in love with a human. There’s always a reason the two can’t be together and don’t mix. Gemini Rising involves the same conflict, but because the creatures are unique to the paranormal genre, the conflict is unique and the solution less clear.
How would the strange Gemini creature meet a human girl? How would she meet him? What will their conflict be? How will it be resolved? These were the questions going through my mind while reading the book. I enjoyed not knowing how things would turn out and seeing how the story would unfold in front of me.
Gemini Rising was short, though some parts of it dragged and were lacking in action. The beginning was confusing and, though it tied into the book later on, the connection wasn’t fully made. I also thought some more information about the way of life of a Gemini could have been expanded more. Some more character development could have been added in virtually every area, though Onyx and Violette were relatively developed and clear.
Overall, I enjoyed Gemini Rising and I’d recommend it to fans of YA paranormal romance who are searching for something new. In that area, it doesn’t disappoint.
