Review: THE REDWOOD MASSACRE is a Total Gorefest with an Axe Weilding Maniac
The Redwood Massacre is the perfect example of a film to define the entire Slasher film genre. If you like movies with tons of gore and gut-eating maniacs, then this film will be perfect for you.
Written and directed by David Ryan Keith, The Redwood Massacre is a Scottish horror film starring Mark Wood, Lisa Cameron, Lisa Livingstone, and Rebecca Wilkie. Despite the cliched concept, this film has certain aspects of a high-quality Hollywood studio movie and it might as well be one of the sleeper hits of this year.
Spoilers Ahead!!

The Redwood House is a popular murder site where not many people care to hang around. According to the legend, a farmer who went crazy mercilessly killed his entire family and ate their flesh before hanging himself afterward. Mysterious things have been happening near that place ever since.
20 years after these events, a group of friends goes on a trip to spend a night in this isolated and creepy murder house to blow-off some steam. What they don't know is that someone else is waiting for them in the woods.

The Good Stuff

Review: THE REDWOOD MASSACRE is a Total Gorefest with an Axe Weilding Maniac
Right from the beginning, the film manages to keep us anticipated in suspense, waiting for the next kill, who's it going to be and what is this maniac going to do next?
For an indie film, the Redwood Massacre has been scripted well with suspense, thrills, violence and plenty of gore. I've seen some slasher films in my days, but my god I haven't seen such large amounts of blood. Repeated stabbing, chopping and even eating guts. It's everywhere.
The film also has a few disturbing scenes, including one where this farmer murders his wife and eats her guts alive. I must admit I never really expected to see this level of gore in such a film.

The Bad Stuff

Review: THE REDWOOD MASSACRE is a Total Gorefest with an Axe Weilding Maniac
Everything was damn good for a small-budget film. Except for the pretty obvious and predictable story. You can practically figure out the ending to the film after watching the first five minutes. Isn't it always about some masked psychopath going on a killing spree?

To Watch Or Not?

Definitely go for it. Even with the poor sound effects and the predictable story, you will certainly enjoy the mayhem in The Redwood Massacre, as it keeps you on the edge of your seat with intense suspense from beginning till the very end.
The Redwood Massacre is now available on DVD and VOD.
