Revel-ing in Amada

By Yonni @vegandthecity

If you’re looking for a stunning view of the Atlantic City boardwalk and deliciously authentic Spanish tapas & cuisine, look no further than Amada by Chef Jose Garces at the brand new Revel hotel and casino. When you enter the restaurant, just off the casino floor and opposite a restaurant by another top tier chef, Marc Forgione, you land on beautiful Spanish-inspired tile floors surrounded by dark wood walls and tables, and almost bird-cage like booths lit by candlelight, with a private yet partially open dining room in the back. There were 11 of us last Saturday night so we opted for the $75 per person tasting menu and left the chef make our ordering decisions for us.  As the lonf vegan in the crowd I feared cheese and pork, but I was so pleasantly surprised.  Wait til you see what I ate!

Revel-ing in Amada

Tie Me Up Tie Me Down
and a glimpse of the fruity spreads

To begin, some selected a bottle or glass from the vast wine list but, if cocktails are more your thing, try a house specialty, all of which are named after Pedro Almodovar films.  My brother-in-law had the Matador, but a few of us went with Tie Me Up Tie Me Down ~ a not-to-sweet blend of lemon, vodka, and rosemary, perfect after a long, hot day on the beach.  Not to mention, with a name like that, ordering it is half the fun! For dinner ~ which was a little over 2 hours, the food just kept coming.  We would fill up on something and then our waiter would arrive with another dish, just as tasty as the one before!  The first few foods I enjoyed were the cocas (flatbread) with confit artichoke, wild mushrooms, black truffles (they left off the manchego for me), the ensalada verde: mixed greens with asparagus, favas, avocado, green beans in a very light vinaigrette and some spreads including a fig compote and a pistachio and fruited one with sliced apples and thin baguette.  They came with cheese and a lavendar truffle honey but I left that for the others.  We also enjoyed mushrooms a la plancha in an herbed truffle oil with scallions and basil, grilled asparagus with a delightful tomato spread, but my absolute hands down favorite were the flash fried piquillo peppers with an almond, tomato, & arbequeno olive oil puree.  FABULOUS!  If you want to head “down the shore” and are looking for a beautiful getaway spot with everything to offer, from a beautiful beach, stunning casino and incredible dining, check out Revel today!
