If you are wondering of which place I am talking about then, I must confess the beauty and surreal charm of the oldest tea estate of Darjeeling i.e. happy valley tea estate.
Nestled inside the heart of queen of hills its perfect location and the terrace valley where every time you would see hue of green and tender petals of tea leaves always excites the mind of tourist. An essence which in turn gives an exotic flavor after the process of harvesting makes the blend famous across the world wide. In March 2007 tea estate was bought over by S K Bansal, of Ambotia Tea Group, which established a new factory within the premises, and started modernization process, replanting and switching to organic farming. Located just below the heritage, hill cart road Spread over 437-acre, it is situated at a height of 6,800 ft. above sea level, 3 km north of Darjeeling, and employs more than 1500 people. Established during 1854, this beautiful tea estate was a kind courtesy of British Empire and today it stand as one of the oldest tea estate of Darjeeling. If you pay a visit here then you are going to witness some of the oldest plants though very few re-plantations has been done but that has not inflicted any menace to a beautiful sight of Happy valley. The months of March to May are the busiest time here. When plucking and processing are in progress, it is open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Surrounding ambiance are free from the noisy crowds which allows tourist to admire the beauty of tea estate beside that from here you will see panoramic view of other hilly slopes which are quiet far from the site of Darjeeling. Tea farming being a main institute, you will find all the neighbours and people performing the same job and during season time you would see employee gently plucking the leaves and collecting on a bowl like container which is made out of bamboo sticks. Tea lovers are surely going to get mesmerize by its exotic fragrance that touches a heart of many outside the district. The distance from Siliguri to Darjeeling is approximately 70kms whereas from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling the distance by road is approximately 75 kms. One traveling from Bagdogra Airport needs to cover a distance of 100kms approximately.
