How to Reach in Gangtok Gangtok is a beautiful small city with a picturesque Himalayan backdrop and lively atmosphere. The capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok is a must visit tourist destination while out for Sikkim tours and holidays. It has several fascinating tourist attractions and also a hub of shopaholics. Exotic restaurants, luxury hotels and the MG road teeming with antique and curio shops are sure to offer a different experience while in Sikkim in India.
Well tourist planning to visit this exotic city would surely have question in mind how to reach Gangtok? To clear this question, here are few information which will help you reach this city in hassle free way.

By Air

   Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim and the state Sikkim does not have its own airport, however a project and the construction work of an airport in going on in Pakyong. Bagdogra is the nearest airport to Gangtok and from here one can hire shared taxi or private taxi to reach Gangtok, which is located at a distance of 124 kms. Bagdogra airport is well connected by the major airline from all the important cities and states of India like Delhi, Patna, Kolkata, Imphal and Guwahati.

By Train

Gangtok does not have its own railway station and so the nearest railheads are New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri Railway Junction. Both the stations are well connected with railways routes to all the major cities and states of India making it easier and hassle free to reach Gangtok. While you drop at NJP or Siliguri Railway Junction, you will find plenty of shared as well as private taxi that connects to Gangtok. From NJP it is 126 kms to Gangtok while from Siliguri it is 114.

By Road

Gangtok has well linkage of roadways and NH 31A Connects Gangtok to Siliguri, Kalimpong and Darjeeling. NH 31A is also the lifeline of Sikkim as it is the only road link that connect Gangtok to rest of India. From Bagdogra to Sikkim by road the distance is 124 kms while from Siliguri it is 114 kms.

By Helicopter

Helicopter service is available only once in a day and it has to be booked in advance. From Bagdogra it only takes 20 – 30 mins to reach Gangtok and only four passengers are allowed.
