If you’re like me, you hear “Extreme” and immediately think of “More than Words” or “Hole Hearted,” their two most successful singles. You also don’t associate them with hard rock at all. But for these guys, hard rock is their identity, they were just more successful for their slower songs. Today’s song shows a bit of the edge I was talking about.
Rest in Peace was released as a single in 1992 from the band’s third album, III sides to Every Story. Unfortunately, it only went to #96 on Billboard’s Hot 100 but did fairly well in the UK, reaching #14.
The lyrics describe a need for peace in the world. Make love, not war…sounds so absurd to me. We can’t afford to say these words lightly…or else our world will truly rest in peace. The song also references John Lennon’s famous words, give peace a chance.
