Isn’t It Midnight By Fleetwood Mac

On November 30, the world unexpectedly lost Christine McVie, a longtime member of Fleetwood Mac, at the age of 79. Not many details have emerged other than she passed from a "brief illness." I hope we find out more details soon because her death was undeniably shocking. Unfortunately, Fleetwood Mac is one band I never had the opportunity to see live. And now, the classic lineup that we all know best will sadly never be again. So, in honor of Christine, I wanted to write about one of my favorite songs that she did with the band. In my opinion, this song is a hidden gem that somehow didn't chart as high as it should have.

Isn't It Midnight was released as a single in June of 1988 from Fleetwood Mac's 14th album, Tango in the Night. It went to #14 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart and also did well in Ireland, charting in the top 30.

The song describes a woman's heartbreak over a man with a promiscuous lifestyle. She still thinks about him and wonders if he ever thinks about her, remembering the face of a pretty girl. Given the mention of "on the other side of the world," it is most likely that they now live in different countries, making the pain a bit more bothersome.

This song was written by McVie, her bandmate Lindsay Buckingham, and her ex-husband Eddie Quintela.

Rest Peacefully, Christine. Your memory will live on.
