Red Haired - Portrait Study

By Pmeurice

Rainy day yesterday - Spent the afternoon doing this small portraiture study in pastel (continuing to use the primed canvas boards I prepared over the last weeks).
The work is done from a photograph (online artist materials are widely available) - I struggled a bit with the composition, and start to understand working from a photograph is stepping in someone else's shoes - the view, the perspective, and the light preferences are radically different. Working from Life, you can feel the excitement or the frustration of having to create your own perception, from a photograph, you rework and recreate - interesting, but far less exciting and stimulating - a completely different emotional experience.
What I deeply enjoyed though is studying the visage features, and of course, the joy of playing with pastel powder at will. I left the work a touch from being completely finished - I felt is gave more Life to the study and served the color games.
Here it is, Red Haired :

This format was great for portrait study - more should surely come in this manner.
