Realistic New Year’s Goals

By Sara Zwicker @SaraZwicker

With the new year just around the corner, countless people are starting to think about what type of resolution they might want to make at this current point in time. A brand new chapter in our history is the perfect moment for you to make some changes, but it is important for you to make realistic goals for yourself without a shadow of a doubt. It’s pretty common for new year’s resolutions to be downright impossible, and you will invariably fail at them which would be demoralizing for you and would make you feel like you would never be able to get anything right.

As a result of the fact that this is the case, when you are setting goals, try to figure out what your limitations are. Instead of vowing to lose thirty pounds, opt for incorporating a bit of regular exercise into your day to day routine. Getting just ten minutes of exercise a day is several orders of magnitude better than doing nothing at all, and it’s something that you can actually accomplish due to the reason that it wouldn’t take an unreasonable amount of time or effort.

Being idealistic means that you will just set yourself up for failure. Think of something that you can do every day, something that you can maintain with a fair bit of consistency. Gradual change is more sustainable, and it can help you start moving towards your actual goal instead of feeling like you are going to stay stuck in the same place for the rest of your life. You can slowly improve on your goal over time, and remember that giving up should never be an option for you to any degree.
