Rainy Day Ritual

Rainy Day Ritual
I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and blustering winds beating against my bedroom window. This time last year such a sound would probably have almost reduced me to tears what with the two mile walk I faced to work, however, now that I've been afforded the luxury of working from home most days, I felt quite comforted knowing that I would get to spend the day indoors - snuggled under a blanket, slowing ticking off my 'to do' list for the day.
The first thing I did was to light a few candles. Now that the dark and dreary mornings have started to arrive, I find it's nice to brighten up the room I'm working in rather than sitting there looking all Ebenezer Scrooge-esque in the darkness. I picked up a couple of these lovely candles from the brand Urban Market at TK Maxx the other day. The one I have been burning is the scent 'Rain Washed Linen' and it smells amazing as well as looking super cute in it's mason jar packaging. I haven't been able to find the brand readily available anywhere online though and so if anyone knows where I can pick more of these up I would be really interested to know!
After doing this I went and made a hot drink. Today I decided that now we are in October and the wet and windy weather is making a more regular appearance, that it was a suitable time to break out the hot chocolate and embrace the onset of autumn. If you follow me on Twitter you will have seen that the method (if you can call it that) that I used today worked particularly well (it was de-lic-ious!) and so I might do a separate post on how I managed to achieve such yummy, chocolately, marshmallowy goodness at some point.
Next on the list was checking my emails and filling in my 'Things to Do' notepad for the week ahead (in the hope that it won't continue to grow too much as the days go on). I'm not the most organised person, but having things written down on paper always helps me feel a little less stressed throughout the day, especially when I get to tick off one of the tasks that I've been procrastinating over for far longer than I should have been.
When the weather is warmer, I much prefer to spend my lunch time sitting outside in the garden with the puppies after which more often than not I will then take them for a quick wander up the mountain or through the woods before getting back to work. When it's bucketing down outside though, I save the walk for the evening when I know I can get straight in and jump in a steaming hot bubble bath, and instead, I will quite often give myself a little mani-pedi - devoting the half an hour 'drying time' I then require to reading or listening to whatever book I have on the go. I am currently nearing the end of Victoria Hislop's 'The Island' and with just a couple of chapters left, I feel I can definitely recommend and may even pop up a little review on here once I'm finished if anyone would be interested?
What are your favorite things to do when it's gloomy and wet outside? Do you stay in and snuggle like me if you can or do you prefer to venture out mackintosh and wellington boots donned?Rainy Day Ritual
