Promising Pigeons Needs Production ...

Posted on the 14 September 2013 by Tlb Music Blog @TLB_Blog
Amongst The Pigeons is, quite simply, an experimentalist and, at TLB, we're more than happy to welcome someone of this calibre into the industry and believe that, if there's music to be made, we're going to want to hear it. We feel that, with new single, Then The Bell Rings, which features Ben Marwood, there are plenty of things to talk about ... and a lot of promise right here.
Promising Pigeons Needs Production ...Though many won't, you have to take this track for what it is. It's really not a cleanly cut and finished product and that makes a massive difference in what you hear - most will want that mastered track that's full of production, but, to take the positives from this, we feel we need to underline the negatives too.
The music is, as we have already expressed, experimental. There are lots of flashes, bursts and bumps of sound that, actually, we feel could really be played around with and produced in a way that would contort and confirm the talent that we feel is absolutely clear. It doesn't really sit anywhere in terms of comparisons, but we feel this could be because of the unorthodox vocal from Ben Marwood, and how, unfortunately, this is not the music he should be singing alongside.
Ben Marwood has one of the most English accents as he sings and that, honestly, is very off putting. It doesn't allow for his diction to be all that strong and, in turn, does not allow his range to be expressed properly ... which is why, generally, the best singers will sing with a softer, more American accent. He doesn't really work alongside this electro-dance aesthetic and, quite obviously, would suit something with a simple guitar, a softer pattern and something where he doesn't need to be so piercing with the accent.
We feel that there is a lot of promise in both of the artists involved in this song, but don't know if their collaboration has been pulled off. We'll be keeping an ear out for both in the future and know that they'll be capable of brilliant things in time.
Paul.
