Still Jodhpur,Umaid Bhawan PalaceDay 8-January 6th,2014
Lunch and later...this was the view from the Umaid Bhawan Palace Gates.Beautiful sandstone houses and an awesome blue sky.
This was our last day at Jodhpur and we only had time till 5pm to visit the museum, which is famous for its time pieces and vintage cars. This is the Palace of the erstwhile Maharaj of Jodhpur,His Highness Maharaj Gaj Singhji. A museum and a heritage hotel are also part of this palatial property. The cars first...This was one of many Mercedes,Cadillac and Buick's and Rolls Royce...no Japanese or Korean cars here. Just regal looking HUGE cars with custom number plates and a century year old cars with Crank shafts(whatever) in working order.Next on,the view of their Palace. This is the Toran from Yuvraj Shivraj Singh's wedding...a good luck charm or maybe something to ward off the evil eye.
The entrance into the museum...this was the first thing that caught my eye.A fan with two blades and an awesome ceiling.
The man himself. The erstwhile Maharaj of Jodhpur,His Highness Maharaj Gaj Singhji.
With it a small snippet of history.
This palace was made before the II world war, to provide employment to the starving people of Jodhpur ,affected by a major drought.
The fresco's painted on the walls are scenes out of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, only painted with classical European style.
A reluctant couple dragged to be photographed in front of the stuffed leopards.
A table setting with the menu card in place. Fine porcelain and silverware.Nothing but the best.
Much yellowed with age, typed in french with stuff like Vichyssoise and wilted asparagus on the menu...classical french cuisine.See for yourself.
Curious looking fan ,this.
The writing table of the Maharaja...The present Maharaja's Grandfather...
The Room where the Maharaja met with his aides and ministers...check the Fresco in the background.
Finally the hall of the clocks.
Diamonds of course, they have been replaced by crystal as the clock is open to public viewing...
A clock in the shape of an engine...
Another one...the lights were yellow,I guess for protection of the artifacts...
This was cool, the silver orbs fall into slots at every hour and the cycle continues...
And a Greek inspired clock...sweet child had the name of the horses and the Greek god,but the name escapes my foggy brain...
That is the coat of arms of the Royal house of Jodhpur.
Since the grandfather was an Air Vice Marshall in the Indian Air force, there were many ,many models of planes. Or the boys are just drawn to things mechanical...
This is the complete palace. The Architects model.
And exit...as spectacular as the entrance.
To Tripolia Bazaar and Nai Sarak...
The Poshak with the gota patti embroidery and vibrant colours.
So many to choose from...
This was for a bride...
Wouldn't we try the wares...
Happy to be in Jodhpur,I cant wait to return...
They say that when you want something very badly ,even the forces of nature conspire to get it for you...
The question is,how bad is bad enough???
Next on..
Udaipur.
'Till I bake again!!!
