Prevalence of Self-Esteem by Category

I have a friend who insists that most people either hate or dislike themselves deep down inside, but that most of these people put up a fake front of liking themselves for a variety of reasons, mostly to get acceptance from others because hating yourself does not go over well.

Well that is one theory.

My theory is that it is not normal to hate or dislike yourself.

Therefore, when I say that low self-esteem is not normal, what I am saying is that a majority of humans simply do not hate or dislike themselves either deep down inside or otherwise.

The implication of course is that most people either like or even love themselves at least most of the time.

Now, I went to do some basic research on the question of the percentages of people who have high, moderate or low self-esteem, and no such figures can be found anywhere.

My guess would be that most people hate either moderate or high self-esteem because that seems to be the natural state for humans. Why?

Because a normal base of most human behavior and self-concept is, in my opinion, egotism.

We usually tend to overestimate how well things are going or are going to go.
