Presenting Palms & Pelicans ...

You may not have heard of Palms and Pelicans, and to be honest, their name might not portray what they actually sound like ... but anyway, they're a new band on our radar that are more than worthy of a shout out for their latest single, Cut The Sky.
Presenting Palms & Pelicans ...As we briefly touched on, their name, Palms and Pelicans, suggests that they are likely to be in the same sort of genre toll as chirpy little indie sorts like Theme Park or Bleach Blood. However, given the first twenty seconds or so, you'll quickly pick up that they are much more along the lines of The Wildes ... though this is most definitely not to be faulted.
It's a calm sort of rock that you get with this track, but one that you can definitely sway along to and thoroughly enjoy. Along the very english lines of Blur, the vocal is particularly British and, overall, we can really see this sort of thing going down as a bit of a classic and, given some proper recognition, this band could do very well.
The female vocal which seeps in throughout the chorus doesn't do it many favours though, which is a real shame. It seems to cut into something that you quickly become accustomed to and, although it is a pretty little thing ... it doesn't evoke enough emotion and, in turn, doesn't really make the chorus powerful enough.
We think that there is most definitely a market out there for Palms and Pelicans, though, we'd like them to rectify the use of the female vocalist too gently ... maybe she should have sung the verses and the male lead the choruses ... but anyway, they definitely have potential and are ones that we'll be keeping an eye and ear on.
Paul.
